                                                  What is hydraulic puller?

A hydraulic puller is a mechanical tool that uses hydraulic principles for disassembly operations, mainly used to remove fasteners in various mechanical equipment such as bearings, axles, gears, etc.

The hydraulic puller operates through the direct forward movement of the hydraulic actuating rod, requiring no rotation of the pushing rod. Its claw base can adjust the distance forward or backward via threads. During operation, simply swinging the handle slightly will make the hydraulic actuating rod move forward while the claws retract accordingly, thus easily pulling out the object.

The main components of a hydraulic puller include the hydraulic pump, hydraulic cylinder, claws, and support frame.

The hydraulic pump generates power, the hydraulic cylinder produces thrust under this power, the claws are used to grip parts like bearings and gears, and the support frame secures the claws to transmit the pulling force.‌more......

What types of hydraulic extractors are there?

Hydraulic extractors are mainly divided into the following types:

1. Hydraulic bearing puller

Specially designed for bearing removal.

2. Hydraulic 3 jaw puller

Suitable for high-tonnage, heavy-duty applications. Features three-point balanced force distribution for even radial loading and strong anti-slip capability, but requires larger operating space.

3. 2 Jaw hydraulic puller

Ideal for low-tonnage applications, round components, or confined spaces. Uses two-point force application, which may create uneven loading, requiring additional securing measures to prevent rotation.

4. Heavy-Duty hydraulic puller

Generates pulling force typically above 50 tons, often equipped with wheels for mobility. Suitable for wind turbine main shaft bearings and heavy workpieces.

5. 50-ton/100-ton hydraulic puller

Classified by pulling capacity. Also available in 150-ton, 200-ton, and 300-ton bearing pullers.

6. Hydraulic sprocker puller

Specifically designed for sprocker components.

7. Portable hydraulic puller

Features wheels at the base for easy mobility.

8. Hydraulic lock-grip puller

Portable hydraulic puller with “Lock-Grip System” that controls simultaneous movement of all jaws, automatically locks, and allows easy installation and operation.

Lock-Grip Puller greatly improves operator efficiency with this heavy-duty hydraulic bearing puller.

Applications of hydraulic bearing pullers

Hydraulic bearing pullers have extensive applications and can be found across various industrial sectors.

Main applications include:

Bearings: Removing rolling or sliding bearings from motors, pumps, and gearboxes.

Gears/Pulleys: Extracting gears, pulleys, and couplings from shafts.

Hubs: Disassembling wheel hub bearings in vehicles and construction machinery.

Bushings/Sleeves: Separating tightly fitted metal or non-metal bushings.

Primary Application Fields:

1. Machinery Maintenance & Manufacturing

Motor/Pump Repair: Removing end cover bearings from motors, pump impellers, etc.

Heavy Machinery: Extracting large interference-fit components from mining equipment and marine engines.

Assembly Line Adjustments: Quick mold replacement or worn part changes in production lines.

2. Automotive & Transportation

Hub Bearing Removal: Maintenance of wheel hubs for cars, trucks, and construction machinery.

Transmission Repair: Disassembling transmission gears and clutch plates.

Engine Maintenance: Removing crankshaft pulleys and timing gears.

3. Industrial Equipment & Energy Sector

Wind Power Equipment: Disassembling wind turbines’ main shaft bearings or gearbox components.

Railway Maintenance: Removing bearings from train wheel sets.

Hydraulic System Repair: Separating precision components in high-pressure oil pumps or hydraulic motors.

Beyond these fields, universal hydraulic pullers are also used in ports, power generation, steel, petrochemical, mining, construction, aerospace, and marine engineering industries. Whether extracting seized/rusted components or performing precision equipment maintenance, hydraulic bearing pullers can complete the job effectively.

The advantages of hydraulic 3 jaw or 2 jaw pullers

The advantages of hydraulic 3-jaw or 2-jaw pullers are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

Super pulling force:

Provides pulling capacity ranging from several tons to hundreds of tons.

Precise control:

Hydraulic system with controller allows accurate force and speed adjustment, preventing part damage while improving work efficiency.

Wide applicability: Adjustable claw opening size fits different part dimensions. Suitable for disassembly in confined spaces.

Flexible and portable: Simple structure supports interchangeable two-jaw/three-jaw configurations. Heavy-duty hydraulic puller features wheeled bases for easy movement.

Enhanced safety: Built-in overload relief valve prevents tool damage from excessive force while protecting operators.

Low maintenance cost: Durable hydraulic components with simple maintenance (seal replacement, hydraulic oil change, etc.) ensure low long-term costs.

Modular design: Quick assembly/disassembly of components like hydraulic pump, pulling claw,s and extension rods.

Excellent stability: High-strength alloy steel construction resists deformation, ensuring frame stability during operation without deviation.

These advantages make hydraulic 3 jaw or 2jaw pullers the preferred solution for heavy-duty industrial disassembly tasks across various sectors.

How to use a hydraulic axle puller?

Preparation

Move the hydraulic cylinder to the work area. The operator should wear anti-slip gloves, safety goggles, etc.

Inspect the hydraulic axle puller:

Check if the hydraulic oil level is sufficient.

Ensure there are no leaks.

Test the safety valve for proper operation.

Examine the claws and extension rods for cracks or deformation.

Measure the inner/outer diameter and installation depth of the bearing, gear, or other parts. Adjust the claw opening width accordingly.

If the bearing and shaft are severely rusted, apply penetrating oil or local heating in advance.

Operation Steps

Position the claws symmetrically on the outer or inner ring of the bearing, ensuring even force distribution. Secure the claw spacing via the threaded adjustment.

Align the center pin (piston end) with the shaft center to avoid misalignment. Place a protective washer on the shaft end to prevent damage.Start the hydraulic pump. Use the remote control to lightly press the pin against the shaft, eliminating any gaps. Check claw alignment and adjust if needed. (TorcStark hydraulic axle pullers feature auto-centering to prevent uneven loading.)Continue applying hydraulic pressure via the remote. Observe if the bearing begins to move. If stuck, briefly release pressure and reapply.

Once the bearing separates from the shaft, stop pressure and open the relief valve to retract the piston.

Note:

Never exceed the puller’s rated capacity—estimate the required force beforehand.

Use anti-wear hydraulic oil only, and keep it clean.

How to Choose the Right heavy duty hydraulic bearing puller?

The key selection criteria for hydraulic bearing puller removers are tonnage, jaw opening capacity, and stroke length. Secondary considerations include adjustable center height (for heavy-duty hydraulic bearing puller).

1. Tonnage (pulling force)The maximum pulling force the hydraulic bearing puller machine can generate.

Selection Rule: Required pulling force ≤ Puller’s rated tonnage (never overload).

Simple Ways to Estimate Required Force:

① Pressure Gauge Calculation: Actual Force (tons) = (Pressure Gauge Reading (MPa) × Piston Area (m²)) / 9806

② Gradual Loading Test: Start with low pressure and increase slowly while monitoring the part movement.

③ Consult Our Engineers: Contact T&T Solutions for free tonnage recommendations based on your application.

2. Jaw opening capacity

The maximum diameter the claws can open to grip parts (e.g., bearings, gears).Selection Rule:Part Outer Diameter ≤ Max Jaw Opening − 10% (safety margin)Example: For a 100mm bearing, choose a puller with ≥110mm jaw opening.

3. Stroke Length

The maximum extension of the center piston determines the reachable depth.

Selection Rule:

Part Installation Depth ≤ Stroke Length − 20% (pressure space)Example: For a bearing installed 50mm deep, choose ≥60mm stroke.

Note:

T&T Solutions offers extendable claws/pistons for custom needs.

4. Adjustable Center Height (Heavy-Duty hydraulic puller)Allows vertical (Y-axis) alignment for bearings at varying heights.

Critical for quick setup in large-scale projects.
